I've just checked our jars for y...Hey Suzanne, <br />I've just checked our jars for you which we made over a week ago and whilst the brown sugar is compacted, it's not rock hard and you can easily pour the mix out - I'd recommend keeping the brown sugar layer as the top layer so it's easiest to get out and making the jars no more than 2 weeks before gifting them for the best results. <br /><br /><br />The reason your brown sugar may have gone so hard is because the flour sucks the moisture out of the brown sugar (the same reason a container of brown sugar may go rock hard if it's not sealed properly).Kristy @ Southern In-Lawhttp://www.southerninlaw.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2500871076078909762.post-51654831427071408042014-09-11T20:18:58.532+10:002014-09-11T20:18:58.532+10:00These look great. We tried this recently with bottles (the plastic ones in the party section also at the reject shop) and while I though they were air tight when I did a test batch a week later the sugar was rock hard.
