What IS Eyebrow Threading?

What is Eyebrow Threading?

If you follow Southern In-Law on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, you would know that on Wednesday I had a totally new-to-me experience - eyebrow threading!

I'll be totally honest. I had no idea what to expect. I'd only seen eyebrow threading booths in the malls in Louisiana, but I never wanted to be the sticky beak who stood staring, trying to figure out what this mystery technique was - so I went back to Jesse's Mom's house and I googled it.

Once I came back home, I'd forgotten about threading until I was contacted by Get Threaded. Get Threaded is the only company in the world that both wrote and owned a nationally accredited threading training course - and the only company which is a registered training organisation. That means, in Australia, the only qualified threading artists are those that have completed the Get Threaded training course.

Now, when you're trying something new - you want to make sure you are seeing someone who knows exactly what they're doing - so when Get Threaded offered for me to come into their studio and receive an eyebrow threading treatment, I was confident I'd be in safe hands.

But before I said yes - I wanted to check with you all. Did you want to know about threading? I put the word out on Twitter and Facebook and the response I received was incredible! So many comments, messages and emails asking/telling me about threading - so I decided it was only right that I was the human hamster so I could give you all the goss!

So how did it go? I can honestly say that I loved it. I have incredibly sensitive skin and waxing has always been bothersome. I've had burns, I've had my skin come straight off with the hairs and as you likely already know - waxing just plain hurts!

Threading was totally different. I feel weird saying this about a hair removal treatment, but it was actually quite relaxing! There is no pain (at least not for me - and I'm a huge wimp!) and you can only really feel a funny rolling sensation as the cotton removes the hairs from your eyebrows. The entire treatment only took about 10 minutes and it was over.

A lot of you had questions you wanted me to answer, so here it goes!

Does Threading Hurt?
Whilst it might seem like it would, you really can't feel much at all. You can't even compare it to waxing - it'd be like receiving a Tiffany Necklace from your birthday versus daggy old socks.

How Much Does Threading Cost?
At Get Threaded they charge $25 for your first consultation where they will assess your eyebrow shape, length, height etc, correct anything that needs fixing and discuss with you about what your individual likes/dislikes are. The threading artist will also talk you through the entire process so that you know exactly what is happening.

After your initial threading treatment, an eyebrow threading tidy up is just $18 - which is very much the same as what you pay for eyebrow waxing at a salon (without the pain!)

What Does Eyebrow Threading Feel Like?
It's hard to describe and I think everyone would describe it different - to me, I could barely feel the string (and I am usely someone who is incredibly sensitive with anything touching my eye area) and it had a very light fluttering/rolling sensation as Evangelie removed the hair.

Would You Recommend Eyebrow Threading over Waxing or Tweazing?
Definitely! Waxing hurts and so does tweazing - I absolutely hate the suspense of waiting for them to rip the wax off your eyebrows so threading was a HUGE relief.

Is there Redness after Threading?
For most women there is no redness after threading - however I have very sensitive skin and even the slightest touch will make my eye area red so my eyebrows did go slightly red for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, the redness went away and there was absolutely no pain, burning or itching sensations - and you don't have that crinkly wax feeling either.

How Long Does Eyebrow Threading Last?
The threading treatment itself takes between 10-15 minutes, depending on your brows.

After your threading treatment, the amount of time before your next treatment really depends on how fast your eyebrows grow - and how dark your hairs are. I'm lucky in that I have light and slow growing hairs, so I can get away with going ~2 months inbetween waxing or hair removal treatments. Evangelie, who threaded my eyebrows, has thick dark eyebrows and said that she has her eyebrows threaded every 3-4 weeks and most women usually have treatments anywhere between 4-6 weeks to 2 months.

What Areas Can You Have Threaded?
As well as eyebrow threading, Get Threaded also do facial threading (full face, side of face and forehead), lip threading and chin threading on both men and women (though for men, their main service is eyebrow threading - which they call guybrows)

Where Can I Get Threaded?
See Get Threaded's Locations Page to see where your closest Threading Artist is. I had my Eyebrows threaded by Evangelia at Top Ryde City Shopping Centre.

Want to know what it looks like when you're having your eyebrows threaded? Just check out the video above. In the video, you'll see that I am holding above and below my eyebrow - this is to support the eyelid whilst Evangelie "threads" underneath the brow. This makes sure that they can get all of the hairs without any pain or discomfort.

As you can see, I don't flinch or move once and I am flapping my gums the entire time (I'm friendly talkative, what can I say!)

So tell me - have you ever had your eyebrows threaded?
If not, what do you do now and is threading something you'd consider doing?

Kristy received an eyebrow threading treatment courtesy of Get Threaded for the purpose of this review. She did not receive any monetary compensation and in no way did the provision of this service impact her review or her opinion of threading. This post contains Kristy's true opinions and recommendations.

  1. I used to get my eyebrows threaded a couple of years ago when I was at University, and I LOVED it. I only stopped going because I moved away. I hope I can find a place around here for sure :) glad you liked it!

    1. Hopefully they do open up a franchise near you soon - it is SO much better than waxing or anything else! I think it's defnitely one of those things you have to try - because no one believes how good it is unless they go and do it themselves.

  2. I will definitely give this a go if they ever open up a shop near me. It sounds very intriguing!

    1. It is really intriguing! My mum was SO sceptical but I went into it open minded - and it was still totally different from the idea i'd formed in my head. It's something that you can't explain to someone - but definitely recommend, haha.

    1. Thank you! I was going to ask on Facebook whether I should make more videos (because my video making skills are so amateur and I thought people might run for the hills - haha!) so maybe I need to put my thinking cap on and come up with some other video ideas!

    1. I loveeeeeeeeeee it! It's so relaxing - which is insane for hair removal as it's usually the total opposite!

  5. Threading is a great choice compared to waxing. It has grown significantly in popularity recently.
