One of the most popular recipes on the blog is our Healthy Paleo Banana Bread Recipe - and for good reason. It is SO easy and seriously, ridiculously delicious.

Even if you don't normally like paleo or grain free baked goods, you'll love this one. Even our fussiest friends and family members love it and we make it again and again and again.

... and I also like to play with the recipe.

With a fridge full of giant oranges, I decided this time I wanted to make a Paleo Orange Cake - so tweaking our favourite banana bread recipe, I came up with the most delicious cake/loaf that's full of orange flavour.

To date, I've made the basic Paleo Banana Bread recipe into these recipes:
And right now, this Orange Loaf might be my favourite.

So let me share the recipe with you >>

Best of all, this recipe is super easy to adapt to use what you already have.

If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use orange juice instead and leave out the zest. To add some extra oomph, simply brush your cooked cake with some orange marmalade when it's out of the oven.

Don't have orange juice or oranges? Well, aren't you lucky there's a whole list of other options up there 😜

One Bowl Paleo Orange Bread Recipe - Who said paleo cakes and desserts can’t be easy? This Orange Bread Recipe makes a sweet loaf that is gluten free, grain free, refined sugar free and absolutely delicious. Clean eating friendly and freezer friendly for easy meal prep.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (240g) unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/3 cup (110g) honey*
  • 2 tsp (10ml) vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 tbsp (50g) butter or coconut oil, melted
  • 4 eggs (~200g)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • The zest of one orange
  • 1/2 cup (55g) coconut flour (I recommend this one for the best results!)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) almond meal
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 170C/340F.
  2. Grease and line a small loaf tin (we used thisdeep loaf tin) and set aside.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine your applesauce, honey, vanilla extract, melted butter/oil, eggs and orange juice and zest.
  4. Mix in your coconut flour, baking soda and almond meal and allow to sit for two minutes. The mix will look really runny at first, but the coconut flour will soon absorb the liquid and form a thicker batter.
  5. Pour your orange bread mixture into your prepared loaf tin and bake for 30 minutes before place a piece of foil over the top (just place it, don't wrap it) to stop the loaf from browning and then baking for a further 20-30 minutes or until your loaf is cooked through and a skewer inserted into the middle removes clean.
  6. If your bread is browning too quickly but isn't cooked in the middle, cover it with foil.
  7. Allow to cool completely before slicing.
  8. We find this orange bread keeps best in a sealed container in the refrigerator and it will keep for 2-3 days. You can also freeze the slices by wrapping the slices individually and storing them in a sealed zip lock bag in the freezer.

Notes:

*If you like your baked goods really sweet, increase this to 1/2 cup. You can also use equal amounts of maple syrup.
