Six Sentence Sunday: 7th December 2014

This weekend has been full of fun and Christmas-y activities, but perhaps the most fun would have to have been our $10 Stocking Stuffer Hunt at The Reject Shop yesterday where we each had a $10 budget to spend on one another and raced around to get everything we could within the budget (which was surprisingly a lot) without the other person seeing and then came home to wrap them all up for Christmas day!

Then, after our fun filled day of Christmas shopping, Katrina Jesse and I spent the night watching Christmas Movies and eating a ridiculously delicious rice crispy chocolate bark concoction (All we did is melt 100g chocolate and mix it with 3 cups of rice puffs/rice krispies and 5 or so crushed candy canes and then spread it out onto a cookie sheet and set it in the fridge before breaking it into pieces).

I also forgot to tell you on Friday that two of our recipes (one of which has never been posted on the blog!) feature in The Greatist's Healthy Cookbook which you can find more about/buy here!

Yesterday I also got to eat the first vegetable ever grown in our veggie patch thanks to Jesse who accidentally whipper snippered this cucumber off the plant whilst tidying up the lawn (awesome for me who was waiting for it to be pick enough to pick :P) and it was serrrrrrrriioooooouuuuuuuuusssslly good.

Oh and remember how on Friday I told you about Jesse's dessert choice as part of our advent calendar activity - well it was sufficiently aweeeesome.

And tonight, past-Kristy has set present-Kristy a challenge with this advent calendar activity as I have no idea what we should have!

But tell me, how has your weekend been?
Any suggestions for our Christmas-y breakfast for dinner?

  1. I'm wondering about your Rice Krispies.
Here - after years of being our go-to resource of something we could use easily - they started putting malt in them so they were not gluten free - and neither are a lot of the candy canes! People have to be wary of these things here in Canada. Read the labels first before they start throwing things into the pot!

  2. Hey Aim, In Australia our Rice Krispies (called Rice Bubbles here) also have barley malt in them so they're not gluten free so we use gluten free puffed rice cereal from a brand called Freedom Foods. I know in the US they also have a gluten free version of Rice Krispies cereal but they don't seem to do the branded version anywhere else.

As for Candy Canes (or anything really!), I always check to make sure what I'm buying to ensure it doesn't contain anything I can't have - but so far I haven't come across any non-gluten free candy canes in Aus.

  33. Being the egg-squisite little nutritional little power house that they are, l use eggs to fire up my family's day everyday. I let the flavour of eggs shine through. My favourite is perfectly poached eggs on toast drizzled with a little hollandaise sauce with avocado slices and crispy wafer-thin bacon on the side. Sometimes I put the egg on a thin base of baby spinach leaves and scrape the toast with a little cream cheese. A truly egg-citing way to start the day.
