Catching Up - Is it Really August 5th?

Catching Up
Source
Hi there, lovelies! I thought I'd drop in to let you know what we've been up to and why we've been a little bit MIA.

August Calendar

I don't know how it's August 5th already but this month is already proving to be hectic! I'm kind of wishing I was joking, but this is an actual screenshot of my iPhone calendar - I have something on every single day. Insane is not even the word for it.

But let's take a look at what we've been up to so far this month...

Thursday, August 1st -
My Dad's Birthday! Jesse had the day off (as my Dad did) so we went out shopping to pick up some last minute birthday presents (seriously we've been so busy we haven't had time to go to the shops together). We found a bunch of things - including some hilarious tshirts from Kmart (I'm seriously becoming obsessed with kmart) which he loved

Homemade Healthy Apple Pie
I also spent a significant part of the day making an apple pie which my Dad wanted instead of Birthday Cake. Let me tell you - I love making cakes and cookies and all things baked good related - but pastry?! Forget it!

I was so ready to throw the towel in and buy a ready made pie. Why oh why does pastry have to be so irritatingly annoying?

Nevertheless, the (secretly healthier) pie was made - and promptly devoured.

Anxious about getting needles
Friday, August 2nd -
Jesse and I had a doctor's appointment at 10am - and we didn't actually get in to the doctors until 11ish.

I was freaking the heck out. I'm absolutely terrified of needles - to the point where the doctor gave them to me in my thighs as my arms are uber sensitive and I cannot have needles in my right (bad) arm as I tend to involuntarily flinch and move. Let me tell you - having needles in your thighs doesn't actually feel better at all because you have to walk afterwards.

About 1/2 an hour later, I was in so much pain and struggling to walk - and then all of a sudden I felt hideously nauseous and woozy and had an insane headache. I was hot and gross and didn't feel good whatsoever. We guessed that it was a reaction to the needle, so I ate some plain gluten free bread and 2 apples and went to bed with some Gin Gins and nausea bands to try and get myself feeling better.

Jesse AsleepLuckily I was able to cancel my plans for the rest of the day as I slept for at least 4 hours and then spent the rest of the evening sleeping on and off before heading to bed early.

Jesse was perfectly fine after the needles (he had his in either arm) but took a "sympathy nap" - also known as, that boy will take any excuse for a nap! He can fall asleep in 0.004 seconds and I'm left wishing I could do the same.

Affordable Family Photoshoot, Sydney
Saturday, August 3rd -
Weekend! Hallejulah - but no rest for the wicked! I packed up my camera and headed off to a family photo shoot, taking Jesse as my "assistant".

The photos you see on the right were a mixed selection from the shoot. Unfortunately Little Bub was grizzly and hungry and didn't want to play for the camera, however, Big Sis more than made up for it!

Family photo shoots and couple photo shoots are my favourite by far.

Tidying up the yardFixing the lights

The rest of our day was spent cleaning up our backyard before our party in a fortnight. We're having a combined wedding shower/21st birthday party and Saturday was the last chance we had to get things organised.

We cleaned up leaves, weeded the garden, re-organised the furniture on our back patio and then rearranged the heaters/lights on the patio too.

Birkenhead Point Factory Outlet

Sunday, August 4th -
Sunday we spent the day at Birkenhead Point as Jesse wanted to buy me some things for my birthday. Unfortunately the day was a major disappointment. We returned home with a couple of tshirts, a dress and 2 basic singlet tops. So many of the stores only had large sizes or incredibly ugly clothes. It doesn't help that it's between seasons either.

I was hoping to pick up a couple of things from Cotton On Body (as I love their activewear as they always have pink!) but I couldn't find a single small or even extra small - just large, large and more large.

Jesse got out of "birthday shopping" quite cheaply - which always seems to be the case whenever he opts to take me shopping ;P (he must pray really hard that they put all of the good clothes away).

Baz Luhrman's Strictly Ballroom the Musical Baz Luhrman's Strictly Ballroom the Musical

Today: Monday, August 5th -
I rounded up SIL Mama and we headed to the media event for Strictly Ballroom The Musical. This was the official announcement of the musical which will be launched in Sydney in March next year at the Sydney Lyric Theatre (official opening night will be on April 12).

Tickets for Strictly Ballroom The Musical go on sale next Monday, August 12th (my birthday!!) and the ticket prices are incredibly reasonable! (Between $55-145).

Baz Luhrman was so personable and real - something you don't often find in people who enjoy a life in the spotlight and spend a lot of time with celebrities. He chatted with the crowd and answered questions and I wished I could have met him. I'm a huge Baz Luhrman fan as he was the creator of so many of my all-time favourite movies (Moulin Rouge, Romeo and Juliet) and it was cool to see that he actually seems to be an awesome guy himself.

I think Strictly Ballroom is going to be a must see show. In Baz's words "Everything dances in this show" - he talked about how they're planning to make the audience a part of the show and just hearing him speak about it with such passion lets me know this will be brilliant!

Jesse thinks Baz needs to create a musical about me because I'm that annoying person who has a song for every moment. Take this afternoon's song burst for an example:
Jesse: "Kristy, you could meet me halfway"
Kristy: "right at the borderline is where I'm gonna wait... for you"
Jesse: "oh not again..."

I will even do it when we're about to go to bed at night and it drives Jesse crazy as I get the song stuck in his head. Last night I got into bed earlier and was super warm and Jesse got into the bed, thinking I had a fever and said "Oh wow.. you're on fire" and I started singing "thisssssss girl is on fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, she's walking on fireeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

Wedding Shoe ShoppingMother of the Bride Outfit Shopping

The rest of the day was taken up with Wedding Shopping. My Mama still needs to find an outfit for the wedding (which is proving to be incredibly difficult) and I haven't found my shoes for the wedding.

A few hiccups in our wedding plans today have left me drained and wanting everything to be sorted ASAP. I totally get why most brides hire a wedding planner.... way too much to think about - especially when you have so little time to do it.

The Rest of the Week

So what's planned for the rest of this week?

Tomorrow I'm off to more media events and then hopefully fitting in some work time as I have some incredibly important projects that need to be completed by Friday. Jesse is off to Singleton once again for work and may or may not be staying there overnight.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be work, work, work and more work as I've got quite a few meetings scheduled in and need to get work finished before the week's end.

Saturday and Sunday I'm planning on getting some wedding supplies (decorative pieces and the like) whilst Jesse will be working (major bummer that he's working on the weekend - but such is life) and hopefully getting some baking done. I may also possibly be babysitting so will have to schedule that in too.

Monday is my birthday! and I'm planning on taking the day off to spend with Jesse (who will also have the day off). I'm thinking my Healthy Chocolate Cake is definitely my birthday cake for this year as it's a cake we all love.

But tell me, loves, what are you up to this week?
Are you like me and connect songs to every moment - or am I just a weirdo?

  1. Oh my gosh, that's what I call a busy schedule. It's unbelievable that you can still fit in such a great long blog post. So I am really curious about your Dad's apple pie - what was the healthy secret with that one ;) ?

  2. Haha, what I didn't write was that this post took me 3 hours to write as I had to stop to answer calls/emails and make dinner!

The secret about the apple pie was that the pastry used NO butter - it was a cottage cheese pastry recipe that I'm working on perfecting! ;)

  3. That's a CRAZY hectic month! I hope you survive it! :) I hate, hate, HATE needles and usually pass out or feel woobily beforehand. I'm fine afterwards, it's just the thought of them. The nurse at my surgery knows me really well now and literally jabs me as I walk through the door so I don't have time to work myself up on the way in! Best way forward...!

I've never passed out from a needle, I just get really anxious and have to stop myself from running out the door ;P I have passed out after blood tests - I'd had a fasted one and my blood sugar was already really low - then I had 11 vials of blood taken and I thought "oh hey, that was easy! I'm.... alll.... fine.... woah" and before I knew it I was laying down on the bed with my Mum fanning my face and the blood nurse urging me to drink water and breathe haha. Now I have to get all of my blood tests and needles laying down ;P
