Bridal Inspiration Shoot: Romantic Woodland Inspired Wedding

Bridal Photoshoot Inspiration - Floral crown, vintage style props and bold lip colour
Photos by Lucie Zeka Wedding Photography Sydney
Jesse and I have been married for two years now, however, I still love all things weddings. The dresses, the themes, the hairstyles, the makeup, the flowers and especially the photos.

Luckily, I have a wonderful friend who not only shot our wedding, but manages to capture cherished memories for other brides; Sydney Wedding Photographer Lucie Zeka!

Lucie and her husband Alban have become good friends of Jesse and I and when Lucie asked me if I'd be interested in working with her on a bridal photoshoot, I'll admit I was a little hesitant, but I know how incredible Lucie's work is so I happily agreed!

I've been sharing photos here and there on our Instagram and Facebook pages, however, I thought I'd share all of the photos with you in one post so that you can have a look for yourself!

Here's the photos from our Bridal Inspiration Shoot >>

What to do with your Wedding Dress after the Wedding

Wedding Dress Restoration Services Sydney

Wow. To be totally honest, I still can't believe that our wedding day has been and got - let alone that we've been married for 3 months! All of the planning and stress and rushing and DIYing and even a few tears are all over and I have a husband!

I'll admit it, my wedding dress was incredibly important to me. In a list of priorities, it'd probably be;
1) Marrying Jesse
2) Having a traditional Church ceremony
3) Wearing the perfect dress

Vain? Perhaps, but it was something I dreamed of since I was a little girl.

Wedding Dress Cleaning Services Sydney

As I talked about in this post, my dress was the very first dress I laid eyes on - just with a back added. I had to have it. I scoured the internet for a bridal store in Louisiana that stocked it (and found it at A-net's Bridal in Lafayette, which I made Jesse drive 3 hours to get to and then made him wait outside).

I then came home and once again took to the internet to find somewhere I could buy my dream dress - and had an alternative solution pre-arranged with A-Net's Bridal who would ship my dress over to Australia if needed.

I went to the meanest bridal store attendant in all of Sydney (but that's a story we'll forget!) who told me I couldn't have that dress because it would take too long, cried my eyes out when the first online store told me they no longer stocked the dress and later cried out of joy, fear and anxiety when I purchased my dress online at House of Brides.

I waited 6 months for it to arrive, only to have it arrive in a tiny little shoebox sized box which gave me the world's greatest heart attack, I opened the box to find it was the dress and I fell in love all over again.

The dress was then altered by the incredible Kaylene to fit me like a glove and I was one thousand and ten percent certain I chose the perfect dress for me.

Little did I know, my dress was also the most comfortable thing ever. I never thought I'd say that about my wedding dress, but now it's something I highly recommend to any bride to be. Don't go for an uncomfortable, heavy dress - you'll be in it ALL day and it's so obvious in photos when someone is uncomfortable. Plus, I have never used so many muscles in all my life. Weddings are hard work and who would have thought posing for photos all day, being on your feet the entire time and enjoying your wedding day would leave you so incredibly sore. I literally slept for two days afterwards :P

Wedding Dress Preservation Services Sydney

From that, I guess you can tell that I was a little bit attached?

I knew that after the wedding, I wanted to keep my dress - but I wanted to make sure it was kept well and didn't end up yellowing or tattered or smelly - and I knew that after the wedding, it was naturally going to need to be cleaned.

When Xpress 2 U contacted me to tell me about their Bridal Cleaning Services, I knew I didn't have another choice - nor did I want another choice. I wanted someone to care for my dress just like I would or my family would - I didn't want to take my dress to some random dry cleaners in a shopping centre who would squish it between the armani suits of business men and the dress coats of prim and proper grandmothers.

Xpress 2 U Bridal Preservation ReviewXpress 2 U offer an incredible Bridal Preservation Service with an eye for detail. First, they meet with you prior to your wedding day to give you a quote and discuss all of the details and then arrange to pick up your dress after your big day.
Next, they mend the lace, beads or crystals you might have on your dress, reattaching, replacing and fastening anything that may have fallen off during the big day. When it comes to cleaning the gown, the Xpress 2 U team hand clean and restore the gowns without using heat (which is the reason why usually, many wedding dresses yellow over time) and then they place the dress in a preservation box, lined with acid free wrap.

To say we recommend the Xpress 2 U service is a major understatement. It was important to both myself and Jesse that we kept my dress - and now we have it stored away safely in a beautiful box.

The chances are, no one will ever where my dress, as it's quite tiny and the full back doesn't leave much extra wiggle room, but as a girl I always have that dream of seeing my own little girl someday in my wedding dress - just as I tried on my Mum's wedding dress! Now, at least I know my dress will always look beautiful!

Xpress 2 U's Bridal Preservation Service is a custom service so pricing will be different for every bride, depending on the level of restoration/fabric used/how dirty the dress is/what type of preservation is required etc, however, it is certainly worth every penny!

Xpress 2 U is based in Mortlake NSW, however, they'll arrange to pick up and return your dress so you needn't worry about adding another thing to your to do list! You can contact them here for a quote or further information. I definitely recommend adding preservation/cleaning of your dress into your wedding budget as it's something that's necessary whether you're keeping it or selling it (because who wants to buy a dirty dress?).

I had my dress picked up a few days after the wedding and the makeup stains on the collar and dirt stains on the bottom of the dress were completely removed by Rosario and his team and I was seriously impressed!

But tell me,
If you're married - what did you do with your wedding dress after the wedding?
If you're not married - do you think you'd sell your wedding dress, or keep it?

Wedding: Our Gluten Free Wedding Cake (that was AMAZING!)

Rustic Vintage Themed Wedding Sydney Australia

Gluten Free Wedding Cake Sydney - Sweetcheeks Cookies and Cakes

I married an incredible man and one who is so considerate. From the moment we began planning our wedding, Jesse told me there was one thing that mattered to him the most at our reception - that I would be able to eat our wedding cake too.

As I have so many allergies, I'd almost given up on the idea of being able to eat my own cake unless I made it myself so I didn't really give it too much thought - but Jesse wanted us to find someone who would do it for us.

Then, we met Danni - and I met a true friend who I absolutely adore. Danni, along with her sister Renee, own Sweetcheeks Cookies and Cakes and together they make the most amazing customised cakes and cookies.

Best of all? They specialise in making allergy friendly treats for their clients - and whilst I presented the biggest challenge, Danni was willing to take on the task!

Gluten Free Wedding Cake Sydney - Sweetcheeks Cookies and Cakes - Two Tiered Wedding Cake with Fresh RanunculusTo say our wedding cake was incredible was an absolute understatement! You all know I'm a baker and I love creating cakes and baked goods - but Danni's cake was the most amazing cake I (and many of our guests) have ever tasted.

The cake was a simple two layered cake (as Danni flew it up from Melbourne to Sydney so she could be at our wedding!) decorated with fresh ranunculus from Brides in Bloom (which matched my bouquet) and had our wedding logo on the front.

The bottom layer was a ridiculously good chocolate cake with chocolate ganace and the top layer was a vanilla blueberry cake with blueberry buttercream. Usually, wedding cakes aren't very good - but this cake was almost totally devoured (except for the small chunk we managed to snaffle and take home - and then we ate it for breakfast and lunch the next day :P Sorry, healthy living blog was on pause haha)

I think you can see the ridiculous excitement on my face in these photos. It was SO SO SO good. I totally underestimated Danni because I had no idea how good it would be - but the second I tasted the cake, I wanted to run away with a spoon and eat it all myself.

Jesse and I actually cut our entire cake ourselves rather than making one of our guests or the caterer do it and it was so much fun - plus, we got to sneak bits that "fell off" ;)

But honestly, if you're looking for a gluten free wedding cake, I highly recommend Sweet Cheeks Cookies and Cakes. They make custom cakes in both Sydney and Melbourne and ship gorgeous custom decorated cookies all over Australia. Not only that, Danni is an amazing person and I really do consider her a true friend - I'm so glad that Jesse's stubbornness and caring for me allowed me to meet her!

But tell me, what flavour would your ultimate cake be?
I used to be a vanilla girl but now I'm alllllllll for chocolate and love light fruity cakes!

Wedding: Our Gluten Free Candy Bar

Rustic Vintage Wedding, Sydney Australia

Gluten Free Candy Bar Sydney

As you know from our last post, we had an entirely gluten free wedding (with the exception of a few beers) so naturally, we wanted our candy bar to be gluten free too.

At first, it was something we almost deemed impossible - but thanks to Big Lolly. Sweetcheeks Cookies and CakesUnique Vintage Events and Timbermill, we were able to pull it off and it looked incredible.

Vintage Rustic Gluten Free Candy Bar Sydney

Our Candy Bar was absolutely gorgeous and we wanted to style it up to match with our rustic vintage theme and everyone loved it.

As soon as I saw Timbermill's Rustic Country Kitchen Bar, I knew it would be perfect for our candy bar. Jesse wasn't so on board as he thought it was a little too rustic, but I knew with the pretty candy jars and some bunting it would look incredible. We also used Timbermill's Wooden Trestle Tables for our food tables so it all tied together perfectly.

The beautiful Candy Jars, Candybar Sign, Mirror Plates, Bunting, Tongs/Utensils and Candy Bar Sign came from Unique Vintage Events and Deb has the most incredible showroom ever. Seriously - she has everything you need and more!

Wedding Logo Design - Wedding Printables - DIY Candy Bar SignFor our candy bar, I made up a sweet little sign, held in an Ikea Tolsby Frame ($1.99 per frame!). All I did was design a 5x6" sign and have it printed at Kmart on photo paper (for 9 cents per print) and then slipped it into the frame.

The sign said:
Love is Sweet
This is a treat,
we are offering to you

On this beautiful day,
that we say "I do".

Use the scoops,
choose what you like.

Leave some for others,
be polite

Wedding Logo Design - Wedding Printables - DIY Wedding Ideas

As you might be able to tell - our Candy Buffet sign, as well as all of our other signs, were designed by me to match in with our theme. Our Invitations, RSVP Cards, Cake, Photobooth Strips and Cake all had our heart logo which I designed. It's made up of tiny little hearts in one big heart.

I design things for clients all day long in my business - so naturally, I wanted to put my design skills to the test and come up with a "wedding logo". It was a very complicated process. As much of a perfectionist as I am, I'm worse when doing something for myself - but in the end, the heart came together perfectly and I LOVED it. I DIYed most things for our wedding (the signs, the designs, the menu, the canvas etc) and even though it added a little bit of stress and extra things on my to-do list, I wouldn't have done it any other way.

But onto the important part - the candy!!

If you're a gluten free-er you'll know how impossible and expensive it can be to find gluten free candy. But don't worry, I've found a solution. Gluten freebies, meet Big Lolly

Big Lolly have an incredible gluten free candy selection - and it's all really reasonably priced! For our Candy Bar, instead of choosing a colour theme, we wanted to have lots of colour and variety as I've heard way too many complain about boring coloured candy buffets where the candy tasted awful despite looking really good (seriously, white candy buffets kind of limit you to peppermint and coconut candies).

We went for a selection of different candies so everyone could find something they like - and so you know the quantities if you're planning to have a candy buffet at your own event, I'll list them too! We had just over 90 guests at our reception and there was lots and lots of leftover candy.

The milk bottles, chocolate jewels and chocolate drops were a definite Kristy favourite (as they were candy I could eat!!! I will definitely be buying any of those again :P) whilst Jesse is a fan of gummy lollies so he loved the frogs and gummy bears. The frogs were definitely the winner for Jesse though and he hid the leftovers for himself ;P

We purchased little vintage stamped paper bags from an eBay store for our guests to put their candy into.

But tell me, candy bars - yay or nay?
What's your favourite candy?
I'm a chocolate girl but milk bottles and freckles take me back to when I was a little girl and my Pa would bring over treats for us every now and again :P

Wedding: The Food - Our Gluten Free Wedding Reception

Sydney Rustic Vintage Wedding

As you will know, if you've been reading SIL for a while, I have a lot of allergies in addition to being a coeliac. I can't eat tomatoes, citrus, this that and the other - it's definitely not easy for me to find food.

So naturally, the catering for our wedding was a real challenge. Jesse wanted our reception food to be entirely gluten free so there was no risk of me getting glutened on our wedding day. It was so difficult finding a caterer that would provide us with gluten free, contaminate free food (others would say, it will be gluten free but prepared/stored next to gluten food or no we won't do all gluten free food.

We only booked our caterer just a few days before the wedding as it took us so long to find one and finalise a menu... but what we ended up with was amazing.

Fruit and Vegetable Bar - Gluten Free Wedding Reception Menu Sydney

I knew exactly what I wanted, I just needed a caterer who could get the wheels turning and give us what we were hoping for - and Flavours Catering did just that.

Usually, when choosing a caterer you pick off their menu and they give you ideas, but because of the specific needs, we did things the opposite ways. I had the menu planned out and even had recipes - I just needed to find someone who would agree with what we wanted and thankfully Flavours did.

Fruit and Vegetable Bar - Gluten Free Wedding Reception Menu SydneyAbove we have our gorgeous rustic themed Fruit & Vegetable bar which was styled by Venece who did an incredible job - she even took time out of her weekend to come in and set everything up to make sure it was perfect as this was one of the first times Flavour's Rustic styling would be used.

I think the first thing I did when I saw Venece was give her a great big hug as, even though it wasn't quite finished (we arrived at the reception early) it was already looking incredible.

Rustic Grazing Table - Sour Cream and Chive Baby Potatoes - Gluten Free Catering Sydney

The rustic theming continued with our buffet table and it looked so good! As you know from our reception post, we had an incredibly relaxed laid back reception and I wanted the food to be the same. I wanted our guests to be able to pick and choose what they wanted, when they wanted and our buffet style grazing table allowed for this.

All of the food tables were on Timbermill's gorgeous wooden trestle tables which I absolutely adored.

Gluten Free Wedding Reception Menu Sydney - Fruit and Vegetable Bar, Mini Frittatas, Mini Potatoes, Rice Paper Rolls

The Menu:
  • The Fruit and Vegetable Bar
Veggies: Carrot, velery and cucumber sticks, cherry tomatoes
Fruit: Watermelon, pineapple, rockmelon and honeydew melon cubes - whole apples, bananas and strawberries
Dips: Hummus, tzatziki and beetroot dip
  • The Buffet Table - The Cold
    Spinach and Ricotta Mini Frittatas
Goat Cheese and Roasted Pumpkin Mini Frittatas (my absolute favourite)
Rice Paper Rolls with Avocado, Cucumber, Carrot and Baby Spinach with Nuoc Cham Dipping Sauce
    Watermelon with Feta and Mint
Pesto Pasta Salad with Greek Yogurt Dressing
Quinoa with Feta, Pumpkin and Baby Spinach
  • The Buffet Table - The Hot
Baby Potatoes with Sour Cream and Chive or Bruschetta Style Toppings
Chicken Satay Skewers with Peanut Sauce
Spiced Beef Meatballs with Tomato Relish
    Seared Beef Skewers
Everyone loved the food and it was worth every penny. Even though we were left with lots of leftovers that we couldn't keep (make sure you bring extra things to pack food into just in-case something happens and you're left without) I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Especially those pumpkin and goat cheese frittatas <3

The food was really fresh and healthy and exactly what Jesse and I love - and our guests loved it too. Some admitted they thought they might be eating hippie food when they found out it was gluten free, but they were shocked at how delicious it all was! Definitely a SIL style menu ;)

But tell me, formal sit down dinners or relaxed grazing tables/buffets - which do you prefer?

Wedding: The Photo Booth!

Photo Booth Hire Sydney - Vintage Themed Wedding Sydney

Photo Booth Hire Sydney - Vintage Themed Wedding Sydney - Photo Social

Photo Social Photo Booth Hire Sydney - Review and Recommendation
I'm not too proud to admit that, for our guests, the highlight of our wedding day was probably the photo booth at our reception.

As I mentioned in our reception styling post, the most important thing for us was that our guests really enjoyed our day - as we were going to enjoy it no matter what.

We had a PhotoSocial Photo Booth at our wedding and I could not recommend Photo Social enough - in fact, it's one of the first thing I've been recommending to couples due to be married.

Photo Booth Hire Sydney - Vintage Themed Wedding Sydney - Photo Social

Before you consider any other form of entertainment - make sure you have a photo booth! Your guests will have a blast (even my Nanna got in there!), they'll have some keepsakes to take home and if you choose PhotoSocial, you get a gorgeous album to take home and keep which has messages and funny photo strips from all of your loved ones.

So if you're low on budget, this is what I suggest you do - forget the DJ (that's what playlists are for), forget an MC (every family has someone loud enough), forget huge floral arrangements (whilst they're beautiful, they cost a lot), forget fancy stationery - focus on what is going to give your guests the best experience. I cannot tell you how happy it made my heart to see our friends and family laughing themselves silly over their photos - and it was also a great ice breaker, we had friends and family members who had never met each other snapping pics at the photo booth and they've been chatting ever since!

Photo Booth Hire Sydney - Vintage Themed Wedding Sydney - Photo Social

The Photo Social guys handle everything and we couldn't have chosen a better company to work with. They're there to help your guests figure out how to work the photobooth, they bring all of the props and handle all of the set up, they make sure your guests remember to write a message - but most importantly, they're a whole lot of fun and great guys! It was an absolute pleasure to have them as a part of our "wedding team" and I could not recommend them enough.

A Photo Booth is actually more affordable than you think, Photo Social's packages include props, the photo booth itself, unlimited prints during your hire time, a guest album, your choice of logo/text on your prints, a disc with all of the images, an online gallery and the option for your guests to include video. Each time a photo is taken, it prints out two strips - one for your guests to keep and one for the album. The packages start at $699 for 3 hours and go up to $899 for 5 hours so you will definitely want to keep them in mind for your next event!

But tell me, are you a photo booth fan?

What was the most entertaining wedding you've been to? What made it so great?

Wedding: Our Reception Styling - A Rustic, Vintage Themed Reception

Southern In-Law Wedding Recaps: Rustic Vintage Themed Wedding Reception Sydney

Squeeeeeeeeeeee! I am so excited to finally show you guys our wedding reception! I had major fears, I'll be honest. I'm an incredibly visual person - I knew exactly what I wanted the reception room to look like and I tried to convey that vision as best as I could - but I had no control over what it looked like as I wasn't going to be there for the set up...

Southern In-Law Wedding Recaps: Rustic Vintage Themed Wedding Reception Sydney

What we had was so much better than what I imagined it would be.
