Recipe: Homemade Gluten Free Two Cheese Crackers

Easy Homemade Gluten Free Two Cheese Crackers Recipe - gluten free, egg free, healthy, homemade crackers, dinner party recipes, christmas, entertaining

Easy Homemade Gluten Free Two Cheese Crackers – a cross between crackers, savory cookies and pastry, these homemade cheese crackers couldn’t be easier to make. Combining cheddar and ricotta cheese, they’re full of flavour and made in minutes in a food processor. Gluten free, clean eating friendly, egg free, nut free and perfect for dinner parties and entertaining.

To be honest, I’m not really sure what to call this recipe other than delicious.

A cross between crackers and savoury cookies, they’re the ultimate recipe to make when you have guests coming over as they’re seriously impressive and seriously easy to make.

I mean, really, when you come out with a tray of homemade cheese crackers, you’ll be giving off some serious Martha Stewart vibes (minus the ankle bracelet and parole officer).

Fresh from the oven, they’re crisp and crunchy with light, pillowy layers. After they’ve been sitting in a container, they tend to soften up a little, but are quickly re-crisped with a few minutes in the oven.

Whether you eat them on their own, add them to a cheese platter or dip them into your favourite dips, they’re sure to be a hit.

Recipe: Copycat Gluten Free Arnott's "Vegemite" and Cheese Shapes

Copycat Gluten Free Arnott's Vegemite and Cheese Shapes Recipe - Gluten Free Cheesymite Crackers Recipe, egg free, gluten free, vegan friendly, low fat, clean eating recipe, healthy australia day recipes

Wishing you could eat the new Arnott’s Vegemite and Cheese Shapes? You don’t have to wish any longer. This Homemade Gluten Free Cheesymite Crackers Copycat Recipe is so easy to make and so delicious to eat. Gluten free, egg free, sugar free, clean eating friendly and seriously delicious - with a vegan option too! An Aussie fave that's perfect for Australia Day!

Click to pin this recipe on Pinterest!

Sometimes I don’t know what would be harder, never eating gluten or eating gluten for years and then never again. For me, I ate gluten for 19 years before finding out I had coeliac disease - so I know what all the delicious gluten-filled foods taste like, but I can never eat them again.

Usually that doesn’t bother me, but sometimes new food products come out that I wish I could eat - and that’s exactly what happened when Arnott’s released their new Vegemite and Cheese Shapes.

Begin recipe testing mode.

When Jesse bought a packet of the shapes and raved about them, I sprung into action... on a mission to create my own version.... and somehow I nailed the copycat version!

Jesse decided these tasted exactly like the gluten-filled version and they were so easy to make. Better still? They’re free of questionable ingredients, egg free and made in minutes. Perfect for snacking, School lunchboxes or get-togethers with friends.

They’re best eaten fresh so they’re super crunchy, but if you roll them out really thin (not thicker like the photos - they have softer centres and crunchy edges), they’ll stay fresh for 2-3 days at room temperature.

Oh and if you're worried, don't be! This recipe doesn't use actual Vegemite (which is not gluten free!) - so you're safe!

Recipe: 4 Ingredient Homemade Paleo Seeded Crackers (Vegan)

Easy Homemade Paleo Crackers Recipe - gluten free, vegan, grain free, low carb, dairy free, egg free, clean eating recipe, nut free, high fiber

Homemade crackers. There one of those things that a few years ago, I would have told you they'd take WAY too much time and WAY too much effort - but now?

Now I'm addicted to making them.

Easy Homemade Paleo Crackers Recipe - gluten free, vegan, grain free, low carb, dairy free, egg free, clean eating recipe, nut free, high fiber

These crackers are stupidly simple to make. All you've got to do is throw all of your ingredients in a bowl, add some water, mix it all up and spread it out onto a tray. Throw them in the oven and before you know it, you'll have a whole batch of crackers ready to devour.

And I promise you, homemade crackers taste a trillion times better than storebought ones.

In fact, these crackers should probably come with a warning - because they WILL disappear before your eyes.

You'll think you can stop at just a few - but the salty crunchy goodness will have you coming back for more. 😜

If you do want to share them, however, you're in luck! These crackers are gluten free, grain free, egg free and dairy free - meaning they're perfect for sharing!

Recipe: Easy Homemade Pizza Shapes Crackers (Gluten Free!)

Easy Homemade Pizza Shapes Recipe - arnotts biscuits, australia day, australian, gluten free, nut free, egg free, low fat, healthy, clean eating recipe, kids, snacks, lunchbox friendly, homemade crackers

Arnott's Shapes are a bit of an Aussie icon. I mean, what other food causes national uproar when the manufacturer decides to change the recipe?

Last year, Shapes decided they'd release "new and improved" Shapes and the whole nation was divided... well... except those that couldn't eat them.

Easy Homemade Pizza Shapes Recipe - arnotts biscuits, australia day, australian, gluten free, nut free, egg free, low fat, healthy, clean eating recipe, kids, snacks, lunchbox friendly, homemade crackers

The Arnott's Shapes was introduced over 60 years ago and growing up they were always a staple at kids parties and barbecues. Everyone had their own favourite flavour - pizza, barbecue, cheddar, chicken crimpy, cheese and bacon - and you always knew that you had to be really careful if you were at a party with little kids as they always seemed partial to licking off the topping and putting them back in the bowl 😜

In the spirit of Australia Day, I decided I'd remake these savoury crackers and create a gluten free version (with a vegan option) so that everyone can enjoy them.

Perfect for snacking, these crackers have a pizza inspired topping that will see you struggling to stop at just a handful.

Whether you're serving them in a bowl at your next barbecue, popping them into lunchboxes or simply snacking at home, they're guaranteed to be a hit with the whole family.

Recipe: Three Ingredient Homemade Crackers (Grain Free & Vegan!)

Easy Vegan Three Ingredient Homemade Crackers Recipe - gluten free, grain free, healthy, vegan, nut free, egg free, dairy free,

Do you want to know one of the problems that pops up when people you find you have a blog? They expect you to always make awesome food.

My friends will tell you otherwise but let's be honest... if you asked me to bring something along to a party or I invited you to my house for dinner and served up a takeaway meal or something I bought from Coles, you'd probably be thinking "huh?! But she shares all those recipes!"

Luckily for my friends, I like to create delicious food for the ones I love - but don't let that fool you. Whilst sometimes I may appear to be a mini Suzy Homemaker, it's all an illusion.

Easy Vegan Three Ingredient Homemade Crackers Recipe - gluten free, grain free, healthy, vegan, nut free, egg free, dairy free,

I may arrive at your place with a cheese platter and homemade crackers and you're thinking "How on earth does she have time to make HOMEMADE crackers?!" but really said homemade crackers took me all of twenty minutes to make and I only had to pull three ingredients to make them.

And one of those ingredients was water...

Fake it til you make it, friends.

Easy Vegan Three Ingredient Homemade Crackers Recipe - gluten free, grain free, healthy, vegan, nut free, egg free, dairy free,

Because really, if you want to look like you've got it all together and you're owning life, make homemade crackers.

And if you want to look even more awesome? Serve it with a homemade dip.... or you know... take a storebought dip out of the tub, sprinkle some paprika or fresh herbs on top and no one will ever have to know ;)

Recipe: Easy Paleo Seeded Crackers (Grain Free & Low Carb)

Easy Homemade Paleo Crackers Recipe - gluten free, vegan, grain free, low carb, dairy free, egg free, clean eating recipe

Let's be honest, when it comes to cooking and baking, I like to take the easy route.

Whilst sometimes I'll have a grandiose idea to create a masterchef inspired creation that takes 3 hours to make, 14 hours to set and six pages of ingredients, generally speaking the hardest part of my recipes is getting my food processor out of the cupboarding and walking it over to the kitchen bench.

And that's only if I bother to include the food processor in said recipe (one bowl recipes are a favourite of mine for that reason).

But I know what you're thinking, you're talking about simple recipes and yet here you have homemade crackers..... yup.

Easy Homemade Paleo Crackers Recipe - gluten free, vegan, grain free, low carb, dairy free, egg free, clean eating recipe

But whilst these crackers may look like they'd be complicated to make, they're actually a little bit sneaky.

You see, they take less than half an hour to make from start to finish.

And I'm not kidding, the hardest part of this recipe really is getting the food processor out.  Once you've done that part, all you've got to do is pulse, flatten, slice and bake. No kneading, no cookie cuttering, no fussing - just delicious crackers in less time than it would take you to buy them from the shops!

Easy Homemade Paleo Crackers Recipe - gluten free, vegan, grain free, low carb, dairy free, egg free, clean eating recipe

Even better? These crackers are jam packed full of nutritious ingredients - and they're made to suit a wide variety of diets. Whether you need something that's gluten free or grain free, paleo or vegan, low carb or even nut free, I've got you covered.

But if you're not paleo or vegan or whatever, I promise you'll love these too. In fact, they go ridiculously well with a nice hunk of brie ;)

Recipe: Homemade Vegan Cheesy Crackers (Grain Free!)

Healthy Homemade Vegan Cheesy Crackers Recipe - Grain Free Cheez-Its and Goldfish Crackers Copycat Replacement - low carb, clean eating recipe, dairy free, egg free, sugar free

Can you have broken taste buds?

I know that seems like a really odd thing to ask, but sometimes I really wonder if Jesse's taste buds are broken.... let me explain.

You see, a couple of months ago I bought a new bag of nutritional yeast. Jesse saw me sprinkling it over pasta and asked if he could try some. So he took a spoonful of it to eat it dry...

I thought the chance of him liking it were slim to none when he was trying it on its own on a spoon, but instead he looks up with huge eyes and says "they taste like cheezels and cheese doritos and cheez-its and they kind of taste like goldfish crackers too!"

That I understood. Nutritional yeast is cheesy - but what he'd say when he first tried this recipe? Yah, not what I was expecting. You see, I decided to make a Vegan Homemade Cheez-Its Recipe that was also grain free and that's how this recipe was born.

But what did Jesse say when he tried his first one?

Oh my GOSH! They are so good... they taste like fried chicken.

Fried chicken?!?! This, my friends, is why I think Jesse has broken taste buds. At first I was ready to throw my recipe out the window because fried chicken wasn't what I was going for - but I rounded up friends and family to try them out and all of them tasted cheese and none of them tasted chicken.

In fact, these crackers are so good that a batch barely lasts a day in our house.

Recipe: Easy Homemade Cheese Crackers (Gluten Free!)

Easy Healthy Homemade Cheese Crackers Recipe - gluten free, low fat, egg free, sugar free, healthy, homemade crackers

"HOW DID YOU DO THIS?!"

Those were the first words out of Jesse's mouth after trying these crackers. Throughout the house, the reactions were different. There were mmm's, ohhh's and even a couple of "oh wows".

When you base your recipe worthiness on reactions, those comments are exactly what you want to hear. In my head, my brain was just screaming "moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!".

Easy Healthy Homemade Cheese Crackers Recipe - gluten free, low fat, egg free, sugar free, healthy, homemade crackers

A few weeks ago I decided I wanted to make crackers, from scratch. I must have either woken up with my Martha Stewart hat on or gotten way too tired of storebought gluten free crackers that taste pretty bleh because I usually avoid my rolling pin like the plague...

But I was on a mission! I was going to come up with an easy to make cracker recipe that tasted incredible, used just a few ingredients and was so simple that there was absolutely no way I'd be throwing my rolling pin across the kitchen in frustration at the end.

....yeah.... that's happened.

But we're not talking about my lack of patience for gluten free dough here, friends. We're talking about deliciousness.

Easy Healthy Homemade Cheese Crackers Recipe - gluten free, low fat, egg free, sugar free, healthy, homemade crackers

These crackers are amazing. They're stupidly simple to make and full of flavour. In fact, they're so amazing that they'll act like Criss Angel and vanish before your very eyes.... only... there's no trap doors or gimmicks with these babies... they'll just end up in your tummy.

I kid you not when I say these crackers are easy to make. In fact, I finished the dough and the timer on my Cuisine Companion told me the dough had taken just 1 1/2 minutes to make. They're so easy that you'll find yourself wondering why you ever bought crackers in the past.

And they're so easy that you'll make them all the time because they'll make you look like a domestic goddess when you share them with family or friends. You don't have to let them in on our little secret either, friends - however, I can't guarantee that they won't beg you for the recipe!

So let me share the recipe with you! >>

Saturday Spotlight: Freelicous Gluten Free Goodies

Saturday Spotlight at Southern In Law

Morning, loves! It's the weekend again! What do you have planned for this weekend?

I am loving that it's sunny in Sydney this morning - and I'm hoping the sunshine sticks around for the entire weekend! I've got a fair bit of freelance work to get done this weekend, however, I'm hoping to fit in some baking so that I have some lovely things to share with you this weekend! What recipes would you like to see at Southern In Law soon?

First up, I want to share some brilliant products with you! Freelicious is an Australian based company that specialises in gluten free products - and it's a company whose products I love!

Freelicious Gluten Free Crackers

The Freelicious Crackers are a staple in my pantry. The new and improved recipe is just like a gluten free ritz cracker! They're great for kids and adults alike and are perfect for whatever topping or dip you like.

I love that they come in two separate stay fresh packages as I'm the only gluten free-er in my house!

The original flavour are just simply salted so you can pair them with just about anything!

A common snack you'll find me eating is Freelicious Crackers with Cheese - laughing cow is a perfect portable option. I also love to add some dates and/or an apple for the perfect mix of flavours!

Do you like eating sweet and savoury combinations? or do you think that fruit and cheese is just plain weird?

Freelicious Frollini and Crostini

Before I discovered gluten was the cause of many of my GI woes, I loved bagel chips. No.. lets be honest.. I was kind of, sort of, obsessed with bagel chips.

There were no gluten free bagel chips to be found and I was devastated. I managed with gluten free crackers until January when I stumbled across the Freelicious Crostini in the supermarket.

Now.. I'm the type of person who will happy dance and get incredibly excited over new gluten free products that I can eat - and the crostini was one of these!

They don't contain any "nasties" that I can't eat and they're crunchy, golden and delicious. They're mini toasts that are perfect for gluten free entertaining. I love them on their own or with cheese or dips.

Also in their Italian style range is there Frollini. Frollini are a traditional Italian shortbread style cookies - only these ones are gluten free! They melt in your mouth and have just the right amount of sweetness.

These are the gluten free biscuits you will want to put out when you have guests over for a cup of tea! Even my gluten eating family love them!

Freelicious Gluten Free Biscuits

Freelicious also have Gluten Free Tea Biscuits which are perfect to have with a cup of tea or to use in recipes. They're perfect for using in cheesecake crusts or for gluten free smores! (just make sure your chocolate and marshmallows are gluten free too!

Like the crackers, they come in 2 separate stay fresh packs so if, like me, you're the only one if your house who can't eat gluten - you won't have to worry about wasting them!

But that's not all - Freelicious have a wide range of gluten free products. Personally, I'm a big fan of their breakfast range which hopefully I'll be able to share with you in a future post!

For now, you can pick up your own Freelicious products at Coles, Woolworths, Franklins and IGA stores around the country - so what are you waiting for!

So tell me, what's your favourite snack at the moment?

I don't think there's ever been a time in my life where I haven't been a fan of cheese and crackers. My snacks at the moment are either that, protein muffins or protein brownies or cottage cheese and nut butter/nuts/cereal/fruit.
